Pandora’s Box lies within. Through ignorance we miss messages which the body whispers to us in an attempt to be balanced.
Any pain or unusual sensation in the body is a signal to take notice. We fail to listen, are far too busy thinking and doing, too preoccupied with the outer world, until something crops up which forces us to take notice. Then we may realise how blind or deaf we’ve been and it takes time and effort to overcome the physical or mental trauma we’re experiencing. I learnt the hard way.
My career was changing fast and I had to keep pace with the demands of my role in education and developed M.E.
I experienced pain and mental and emotional disturbance. My whole system was in shut down and as a badminton player and keen swimmer I was in a state of shock over what was happening to me and had to find a way to overcome my condition, to listen to what my body wanted in order to recover. It wasn’t easy but I was determined. I recovered.
Now I know the benefits of being in tune with my body and have greater powers of observation and have learnt ways to overcome challenges and to consider my energy at all times, take care about my diet and exercise programme and ensure I have plenty of relaxation and fun..
As a Yoga practitioner and teacher, I know from years of experience how my body responds and became fascinated with how energy works. Mindfulness and Meditation have been good tools for me. I feel wiser now and am keen to help others understand how to live a better healthier life.
In awakening to noticing the body‘s reactions and energy levels, a greater freedom is experienced, decisions, dilemmas become easier and a greater understanding comes. We talk of a 'gut reaction' or intuition, quite liberally, but what is this about? The stomach is our informer, a second brain.
How complex we are as humans and our sensitivity is picked up from beyond the body and impacts on it without us knowing. If we look deeper, peel back the layers of the onion we begin to see far more. Education doesn’t show us how to understand this. In a busy world with demanding regimes, we are missing out on a way to happiness, good health and a stress-free life.
Noisy frenetic environments are now commonplace at work and in the home where constant activity of one sort or another is the norm. Technology rules our lives increasingly. Many no longer know peace, the tranquillity of the countryside apart from perhaps at holiday times, and have lost connection with themselves. Each of us is adaptable and the human form is used to operating in changing circumstances. It is good to experience different ways of living, many circumstances but overwhelm is detrimental to health on all levels.
Why not be preventative, in your approach to looking after yourself? You can learn to listen within, to act on the information and live a better life. People go to the gym, swim, walk, practice Yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi to name but a few methods of keeping fit without necessarily being competitive.
What do I mean by 'listening’ to the body? It is a term we have all heard but probably not really thought about very much. It took me many years to trust my intuition and to treat my body better. I discovered how to respond to what the energy in my body was trying to tell me. I have techniques and skills to help with this. They have been devised from others, borrowed, pieced together in new ways or just appeared when needed most. Synchronicity just happens magically at times! All I know is that I feel more empowered, calmer, confident about my body and my health.
Watching the breath is the place to start. Logical you may say. What is new in that? How we breathe, where the breath comes into and leaves the body, what happens to it whilst in the body and the pace of breathing are all part of this.
Energy is our source of sustenance and renewal. We take it for granted but if we observe more closely we will be aware of changes. The changes will show up in the body but it's more than this. Our consciousness is important and how we control and develop this. Too much thinking creates tension and this in turn creates problems. Mindfulness is a way of becoming more aware of what is happening in the body taking the consciousness from one area to another and changing the energy. Working with energy in a different way brings other knowledge and peace too.
Meditation has been practised by countless numbers of people for years and has its benefits in bringing a sense of calm. It may simply mean pausing with an inactive mind for a few minutes. It does not need to be a lengthy period of time sitting still cross-legged on the floor. First one has to train, discipline oneself to find that place and time to practice and with a willingness to be open and enjoy. It may not come naturally to all but the benefits are amazing once learned, experienced and understood. The brainwaves are altered benefiting the whole being.
When I was trying to overcome my illness I had to find ways myself as the medical profession had no clear answers. They did point me to Yoga and I also was led to become involved in healing. From here I moved on until I became aware of how to work with energy.
As I learnt more, I discovered a whole new world which became ever more fascinating. Consciousness is changing and new paths are opening up. You can become more in charge of your life as I have, be happier, more fulfilled and live longer.
COACHING AT YOUR CONVENIENCE
I wonder where you are reading this right now? Maybe at home, in the office or on some form of public transport. Life has changed so much.
At one time the telephone was the only way of communicating other than using the mail or telegraph. How far we’ve come from those days. It almost linked in with the gas mantle. Electricity changed all that and advances in technology made further developments. Now we are in a place of superhighways etc. and the world is so different and much ‘smaller’ as communications are fast and easy. Time is of a premium for everyone and any ways that can ease life are welcomed with open arms.
The old wired telephone meant that people could only receive calls in one area or may be two if there was an extension in the property. Digital phones altered all of that.
Now people can have numerous phones around the home and some can even be used in the garden. However it is the creation of mobile networks and the day of the I-phone, Blackberry and other devices that have made communication by telephone even easier.
It is very useful to be able to work with a coach over the phone and the meetings set up in advance to suit both parties, can be as laser-like or leisurely as you like depending on your style, needs and time.
So if you need to be coached on the train, on the bus or even in your lunch break from work, it all works well. All you have to remember is to ensure you have plenty of battery charge.
A huge amount of coaching is done over the phone either instead of face to face or in addition. People can select the appropriate coach for them to ensure getting what they specifically need. Each coach is different and has their own style, specialisms and way of working.
If you haven’t thought about how useful and practical it is, now could be the time to give it a go.
To sum up the chief benefits are:-
.Good time management
.The venue is your choice
.Your paperwork and anything else you need can be with you
.More economic due to it being an integral part of your days activities
Give it a whirl. You won’t be disappointed.
We cannot see energy but it is everywhere and everything is energy. We can however sense and feel energy. It can be translate into imagery or sound by some.
The aim of this book is to give some pointers for helping people to work in new energetic ways. The exercises here can be used universally by individuals for self-help.
The human body is a miraculous vehicle and the majority of people don’t realize that the physical body is only the ‘case’ and have no idea that there is an energy body beyond which is real and complex. In studying Tai Chi and Chi gong, energy fields are worked with, felt and linked in to. Other Marshall arts would fit into this category as they too work with energy.
Our minds are so much more powerful than we could ever imagine. Once you can harness this power, life can be amazingly miraculous.
We talk about energy in terms of having energy or a lack of it. When we rub our hands together fast, we are aware of heat, an energy which, can be felt as warmth. If the hands are then placed on the cheeks, the heat generated by the hands, is palpable. This is a proof of energy. Putting the hands over the eyes, brings warmth and comfort.
LIFE AS AN ENERGY BEING
There are things we can see and things which we can’t. Only in special film can we see growth of plants but we know that growth happens in plants and in humans. Spring bulbs, whether in pots in the house or garden, seem to have a massive ability for fast growth once the process has begun. It’s a sort of race or maybe a relief that at last they can burst through into blooms again.
Who are you and what are you being at any one time? You have a body and mind. How aware are you?
KNOWING MORE ABOUT YOU
When we can feel our bodies more we learn about ourselves.
Learning more about yourself and your energy is important. Stop right now. With your feet on the ground notice how you feel. Are you calm? Is your energy buzzing? Can you feel one part of the body more than another?
Try the following on the body to see the differences. STROKING, TAPPING, TOUCHING, RUBBING, PINCHING
Become aware of your eyes. Do these exercises... Squeeze then open wide. Look to the left. Look to the right. Look to the top left. Look to the top right. Look to the bottom right. Look to the bottom left.
Look Round in a circle clockwise. Look round in a circle anticlockwise.
LIMB MOVEMENT.. ARMS. swing, bend, stretch up, stretch down, hunch to shoulders and relax, turn wrists to the right then to the left, pull each finger, bend each finger, stretch the hand so each finger extends, pull hand back away from the wrist, shake the hands.
FEET..With feet on the floor go up onto tip toes, stretch and bend feet, wriggle from side to side, walk around on outsides of feet, walk around on insides of feet, with feet of the floor turn each foot first right then left. Bring right foot up to lap and massage feeling every part of the foot and each toe. Repeat with left foot.
INSIDE AWARENESS..Isometric Exercises. These tense your muscles and use the breath. You squeeze your muscles so they contract and then release.
Tense the stomach muscles and release, the shoulder muscles, the buttocks, knees, whole of the arms, shoulder, facial, chin, eyes.
Move around the room being aware fully of putting your feet on the ground, sensing the movement as you walk. Where do you feel? Is it the legs, torso, feet.
Move faster, change direction, go slower, stop, turn round and move sideways.
Lie on the floor and breathe through the body. Sink in to the floor so every part of the body touches the floor, breath and relax.
Sitting and responding to another....gestures, smiles, facial expressions, body language. Play with all of these and notice how you feel.
Emotional responses....Notice your feelings. Notice how others respond to you.
All of this about experiencing your own energy and 'finding more about you.'
